Following a review of service to increase efficiency, Katherine Town Council is changing the hours of the Waste Management Facility.
Elected members agreed to the proposal at the Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday September 27.
Katherine’s Waste Management Facility hours will be reduced from 66 to 53 per week. For comparison, the Alice Springs Waste Management Facility is open 56 hours per week and the Barkly Regional Council's Waste Management Facility is open 53 hours per week.
The Katherine Waste Management Facility will still open seven days a week. Its hours from Monday October 17, 2022 will be:
- Monday to Thursday from 7.30am to 4pm
- Fridays from 7.30 to 2.30pm
- Saturday and Sundays from 8am to 2pm.
The changes also consider a future tip shop at the facility, which is expected to open for eight hours over a weekend.
These changes will not affect the Waste Management Facility’s operational budget. Council will review these changes after three months.
