Katherine Waste Management Facility

Dispose domestic and commercial waste at this facility. There is a weighbridge at the entrance of the facility and staff assist in the process and to help with any questions. Domestic users will be referred to the transfer station, where they can separate and dispose of their waste. Commercial users may be sent to the tip face to dispose of their waste. A Tip Shop is also located at the facility.

Lot 5043 Novis Quarry Road. Located along the Victoria Highway, opposite to the Rail Terminal, approximately seven kilometres from the Katherine CBD.

Tip Shop

Katherine Town Council’s commitment to recycling and its residents’ passion for repurposing pre-loved goods has driven the reopening of the Tip Shop on Saturday, 9 September 2023. 

Located at the Katherine Waste Facility on Novis Quarry Road, the Tip Shop will be open 9.00am to 1.00pm every second Saturday from 23 September 2023

Please note that ETFPOS only sales available.

Accepted wastes and hazardous waste disposal

The facility accepts municipal, commercial and construction waste streams. It also accepts green waste, animal carcasses and a number of listed wastes including asbestos (appointment only), tires and batteries. If you are unsure about whether we can accept a specific waste, please contact the council on 08 8972 5500 or send an e-mail to records@ktc.nt.gov.au. More information about hazardous waste disposal can be found below.

Batteries

Rechargeable batteries and lithium-ion batteries are hazardous and could produce sparks that may start a fire in the trucks or landfill site. Due to the fire hazard, residents are encouraged not to put any batteries in their household/commercial waste bins. Batteries can be dropped off, at no cost, to the facility where there is a designated bin.

 Batteries accepted:

  •  Alkaline batteries: Any brand of AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, N, 9V or button batteries (both rechargeable and non-rechargeable)
  •  Lithium-ion Batteries: Batteries used in cameras, torches, toys, laptops, power drills or other appliances
  •  Car Batteries

Asbestos

Katherine Waste Management Facility is licenced to accept asbestos that complies with NT Work Safe Authority regulations and legislative requirements. Please visit their website for clarification on these regulations. The disposal of asbestos is strictly by appointment only. Please complete the Asbestos Removal Application form and contact Council on 08 8972 5500 or records@ktc.nt.gov.au to arrange a suitable disposal time.
