With support from RAAF Base Tindal and Katherine RSL Subbranch, Katherine Town Council will host a Remembrance Day Service at the Katherine Cenotaph from 10:40am, on Saturday, 11 November.
Remembrance Day is commemorated around Australia each year to acknowledge the sacrifice of those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Mayor Lis Clark said Remembrance Day has historical significance because it marked the end of the First World War.
“As in many countries, we observe a minute’s silence at the 11th hour of the 11 day on the 11th month, for all lives lost fighting for our country,” Ms Clark said.
“It is also a time to remember how devastating a war can be and the ongoing impacts on everyone.”
If participants would like to lay a wreath at the service, they can fill out an Expression of Interest online here.
