Councillor Denis Coburn has been re-elected Katherine Town Council Deputy Mayor; a role he has held since former Deputy Mayor resigned in February this year.
The election was held by secret ballot at a recent Council meeting, and Councillor Coburn was elected five to two for a one-year term.
The Deputy Mayor fills the Mayor’s position during absences.
Previously it was a two-year appointment, but Council also voted to amend the term to two, one-year terms.
“Council congratulates Deputy Mayor Coburn,” Mayor Lis Clark said.
“Our elected members also voted for the role to have two one-year terms instead of a two-year so that other Councillors have a chance to hold the Deputy Mayor position before the end of our term of office.”
