Local artist Kim Maskell has been named the winner of the Centenary Logo Competition. Her design will appear on promotional material for Katherine Town Council’s Centenary celebrations throughout 2026.

The celebrations will commemorate 100 years since the Katherine railway bridge was completed on July 15, 1926. It facilitated the settlement’s move from over the river to the town’s current, officially gazetted site.

The competition, run through the Katherine Town Council’s Your Say Katherine platform, attracted 19 submissions. The Centenary of Katherine Advisory Committee selected ten finalists. The final decision was left to the community, with 669 visits recorded on the voting page and 61 residents voting for the winning design.

Kim Maskell, a Katherine-based artist, is known for her vibrant, nature-inspired artworks. She works across various media, including Adobe Illustrator, acrylic paint, and Posca paint pens, but says digital art is her favourite due to its precision and limitless creative potential.

"Living in the Top End is a constant source of inspiration, especially with the rich birdlife and seasonal changes,” Ms Maskell said. “The Wet Season is my favourite time of year because the landscape comes alive with colour and sound, from birds to insects and frogs. As an artist, I aim to capture and share as much of our native beauty as possible."

Ms Maskell’s winning logo will be used across all promotional and event materials for the 2026 Centenary of Katherine celebrations. In addition, the other nine shortlisted designs will be displayed on flags along the main street to recognise the community’s creativity.

The Centenary program is expected to include historical exhibitions, cultural events, and community celebrations, with details to be released later this year.
