Katherine Town Council has released its Draft Municipal Plan 2024-2025, which includes its proposed budget, long-term financial plan, rates and fees and charges for community consultation.
The Municipal Plan is Council’s action plan to deliver the priorities set in its five-year strategic plan, Katherine 2027.
Katherine Town Council CEO, Ingrid Stonhill said the draft plan describes Council’s priority actions for the next financial year, including how it proposes to spend its money and measure its progress.
Highlights for the coming year include:
- Upgrading the Katherine Aquatic Centre
- Building a new dog pound
- Completing the sports ground fencing and upgrading the showground fencing
- Installing nature playgrounds
- Improving rural roads
- Redeveloping First Street to improve parking and traffic flow
- Upgrading the waste facility infrastructure
- Improving stormwater drainage
- Constructing uniquely designed Outback Outhouse toilets in the CBD
- Upgrading the aged Civic Centre
- Linemarking the CBD carpark
- Increasing the number of Council’s work experience and traineeship positions
- Creating a new ‘Visit Katherine’ website
- Developing a Reconciliation Action Plan
Consultation
The draft Municipal Plan is available for the community to review for 21 days. The community consultation period closes on 25 June 2024.
