Katherine Town Council has launched a new online search function for the historic Katherine Memorial Cemetery, powered by Byond. This innovative tool allows families and the public to search for and find the burial locations of their loved ones at the cemetery.
The Katherine Memorial Cemetery, often called the “Pioneer’s Cemetery,” dates back to the 1920s. Officially established in 1934, it is the final resting place for early settlers, Indigenous community members, military personnel, and other notable figures who contributed to the region’s development.
Katherine Town Council will continue to build on the new online search function’s capability so in future it will also provide:
- Easy Access to Records: Search for friends and family members to locate their gravesites.
- Historical Insights: Discover details about individuals who shaped Katherine’s past.
- Digital Preservation: Submit photos of burial sites to be uploaded online, preserving memories for future generations.
- Community Involvement: Update and correct outdated records, ensuring accuracy for genealogical research.
- Enhanced Cemetery Information: Access up-to-date details on lawn cemetery plot reservations, policies, and ornament guidelines.
This user-friendly web-based platform will safeguard cemetery records that previously were paper-based, helping preserve Katherine’s history for future generations. To research specific historical graves or individuals buried in the Katherine Memorial Cemetery, you can access burial records using byondcloud.
