Free Women's Mental Fitness Workshops

The Katherine Town Council is hosting free 90-minute workshops designed to equip women with mental and emotional fitness tools to face future disasters, extreme weather events, and other life challenges. These workshops will be facilitated by internationally acclaimed Self-Leadership Specialist and Coach Sue Kohn-Taylor.

Sue Kohn-Taylor is renowned for her global impact, especially across New Zealand and Australia, where she combines personal development, positive psychology, and mind training to empower individuals. A regular on television, public speaker, and columnist, Sue was recently honoured at the Women Changing the World Awards in London. She received the Silver Award, presented by the Duchess of York, for her outstanding work in mental and emotional fitness and self-leadership.

These workshops are specifically tailored for women in remote, rural, and regional areas who may face adversity due to floods, drought, accidents, or illness. The format includes a panel session where the facilitator explores strategies that have helped women deal with real-life challenges.

Sue teaches simple, practical, and science-based strategies to strengthen mental and emotional fitness for day-to-day well-being and resilience based on the four pillars of Seeing Fit, Feeling Fit, Acting Fit, and Thinking Fit.

"Our mental and emotional fitness affects how we think and feel about ourselves and others and interpret everyday events," Sue said.

"It influences our capacity to learn, grow and communicate. It also influences our ability to cope with change, transition, major challenges and everyday life events. It enables us to function well and interact with others – to help us succeed."

Following the workshop, participants will have access to free one-hour online sessions via Zoom for three months to help them further embed the strategies and continue conversations about resilience and well-being. This ongoing support will provide a safe space to reflect on the workshop content and receive ongoing guidance from Sue Kohn-Taylor.

The workshops are part of the Katherine and Big Rivers region October Business Month program, and participants can choose the timeslot that best suits them for their free 90-minute session. This project is supported by the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal, through funding from the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund.
