Public Comment - Draft Municipal Plan 2023-24

Katherine Town Council has released its Draft Municipal Plan 2023-2024 with draft budget, long-term financial plan, rates and fees and charges for community consultation.
Katherine mayor and councillors passed this motion at a Special Meeting of Council on Tuesday 6 June.
“The purpose of the Municipal Plan is to explain to our community what priorities of the council Strategic Plan 2027 will be delivered in 2023- 2024, where we are going to spend our money, and how we are going to measure ourselves in the future,” KTC CEO Ingrid Stonhill explained at the meeting.
Highlights for the coming year include:
- Develop a Reconciliation Action Plan for Katherine Town Council,
- Hold a By-election to fill the two vacant councillor positions,
- Develop an Employee Wellbeing Strategy that will promote staff engagement, improve employee health and attract capable staff,
- Upgrade the Civic Centre to meet building code and WHS standards and improve staff and visitor experience,
- Improve lighting and safety in Katherine,
- Create a Cemetery online search on the council website,
- Commence Aquatic Centre upgrade planning and consultation,
- Continue the Recycling Trial initiative,
- Open the Tip Shop, and
- Support the electric vehicle (EV) station installation for Katherine.
Consultation
The draft Municipal Plan will be available for the community to review for a 21-day period. The community consultation period closes June 27, 2023.
