Katherine Town Council is rallying the community to support this year's ‘'Great Spring Clean-up of the river corridor, starting from the Hot Springs from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, 22 September.

As part of a national event, the Katherine community embraces the opportunity to scour the area for rubbish before the impending wet season.

Mayor Lis Clark said, “Even if people only pick up a few pieces of rubbish, these small beginnings make a difference.

“Our river is the town's greatest asset; whether it's fishing or using the river trails, it’s a wonderful attraction for locals and visitors, so giving it a spring clean before the next flood event is an important, community-spirited thing to do.”

In previous years, the Great Spring Clean has removed an astonishing 360 kilograms of rubbish from the river corridor.

The Great Spring Clean kicks off at 8 a.m. on Sunday, 22 September. Volunteers will receive vouchers from the Coffee Club, Finch Café, and The Meeting Place, as well as movie tickets, and they will enjoy a free sausage sizzle supported by Woolworths Katherine.

You can register and pick up rubbish bags and gloves from the Council staff set up under the trees at the Pop Rocket Café. The event finishes at noon.
