About rates and charges

Rates ensure residents receive essential services like waste management, road maintenance, and working facilities such as sportsgrounds and a library. Council rates are levied on each rateable property to provide funds for these services and management of the Katherine community's assets.

The Local Government Act 2019 requires Council to publish its Rates Declarations for the past three (3) years.

Annual rates notices

Annual rates notices (1 July – 30 June) are issued every August with the option to pay in four (4) instalments.

Instalment dates are:

30 September
30 November
31 January
31 March

Payment reminders are advertised in local print media and residents can sign up for a free quarterly SMS reminder service.
