Katherine Town Council is working with Cleanaway to deliver new 240L general waste bins to all eligible properties in June 2025.
From Tuesday, June 17, to Friday, June 27, 2025, Cleanaway will deliver new red lid bins and collect old green-lid bins on residents' regular collection days.
Mayor Lis Clark said the rollout aligns Katherine with Northern Territory waste guidelines and improves long-term waste management.
"This rollout is about making waste services more efficient and environmentally sustainable. We’re asking residents to work with us to make the change as smooth as possible," Mayor Clark said.
Residents must place their bins out by 6:00 am on their collection day and leave them out for retrieval. Once you receive your new red lid bin, your old green-lid bin will no longer be collected.
Cleanaway will place an ‘unauthorised bin sticker’ on old bins that can’t be serviced, along with the Cleanaway Customer Service number to call for help.
Residents must not place chemicals, paints, oils, batteries, electronics, construction waste or asbestos in the new bins. These can all be taken to the Katherine Waste Transfer Station.
